Town waives building fees for hospital

The Upper San Juan Health Service District (USJHSD) received a substantial show of support Tuesday night from the Pagosa Springs Town Council in regards to the planned expansion project for its primary care health clinic.

Before the discussion began, Town Manager Greg Schulte, who is also a member of the hospital’s board of directors, recused himself and left the council chambers, leaving Town Planner James Dickhoff to introduce the matter.

Dickhoff outlined the history of the project, explaining that on June 9 the design review board approved USJHSD’s major design review application, but with a number of contingencies. On July 16, once those contingencies were met, the building department received an application for a building permit. Then on July 29, the town received a formal request to waive the development fees.

Dickhoff explained that the estimated value of the expanded portion of the clinic would be $7.2 million, which means the building permit fee would be $30,359.40, the plan review fee would be $15,179.70, the road impact fee would be $39,809 and the regional public building impact fee would be $3,736.50.
