Tomorrow is the deadline to register teams for this year’s adult men’s and women’s basketball leagues.
The recreation office will accept registrations for men’s recreation league, men’s competitive league and women’s recreation league. However, if there are not at least four teams registered for the women’s league by the deadline, the women’s league will be canceled.
Registration forms are available at the department office in Town Hall. Team registration fees are $250 per team, plus a $30 fee per player.
The leagues are tentatively scheduled to begin in early March. Call the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232, for more information.
Programming
The Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is in the process of evaluating the feasibility of new summer programming, clinics and workshops for local youths.
Through an ongoing partnership between the town recreation department and Ross Aragon Community Center, staff hopes to identify new possibilities for low-cost sports programming, outdoor education and arts-related endeavors. The desire is to create an introductory curriculum for next summer and implement as many new programs as the town budget allows.
The tentative plan is to utilize volunteers for as many programs as possible, but there may also be opportunities for the use of talented, specialized instructors on a part-time, compensated basis. The goal is to provide fun, educational programs for youths ages 4-10 at a reasonable cost.
Anyone interested in submitting a programming idea can contact the town recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232, or Cheryl Bowdridge, community center director, at 264-4152.
Volunteers sought
The Town of Pagosa Springs is seeking volunteers to serve one- and two-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Commission.

The commission is also expected to collaborate with town council regarding the research, promotion and development of new recreation initiatives.
Individuals interested in applying for a seat on the commission should be knowledgeable about the town’s current recreation programming, be keenly interested in town development issues and have applicable experience. The commission typically meets the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Town Hall, but meets more frequently if required.
Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest to the Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department no later than Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. Letters may be sent via mail to PO Box 1859, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. Letters may also be sent to tcarosello@centurytel.net.
