obit-torreyThomas Kevin Torrey left this world unexpectedly on July 10 in Durango.

Tom was born May 7, 1953, in Denver to Edgar and Virginia Torrey. He married Nancy Lea Torrey on June 10, 1972, in Denver and moved to Pagosa Springs in January 1989. He was employed by Wolf Creek Ski Area for five years as a lift operator and maintenance technician, helping to build chairlifts. Tom served on the Pagosa Springs volunteer fire department for 17 years. After retiring from the fire department, he worked as a sawyer in fire mitigation with Jay Laly and Brad Clark.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Pamela Weaver. He is survived by one brother, Jack Torrey, of Denver, and one sister, Christy Torrey, of Denver; one son, William Thomas Torrey, his wife, Rosa, and their children, Patrick, Samual and William, of Cadiz, Ky.; and one daughter, Jennifer Dawn Torrey Segura, her husband, Benjamin, and their children, Joseph, Kevin and Daesha, of Pagosa Springs; and his constant companion, Blue Dog. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Janet, her husband, Walt Lee; Kathy and husband Steve Thompson; and Dawn and husband Bob Rochkes, all of Denver; numerous nieces and nephews and too many friends to mention each one.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, at the Archuleta County Extension building, beginning at 11 a.m. A potluck lunch will follow. Donations may be made in Tom’s name to the Pagosa Fire Protection District or the Pagosa Springs Humane Society.
