Update, April 1: The temporary burn ban has been lifted, according to the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office.
According to the agency, burning operations may continue in line with Archuleta County Ordinance 18-2017 and Pagosa Fire Protection District, Los Pinos Fire District permit conditions.
Original, March 30: According to the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), a temporary burn ban is now in effect for all agricultural and permitted burns within Archuleta County, effective immediately.
"Due to the current conditions, particulary forecasted wind events, we are shutting down the agricultural and permitted burn process for an abundance of safety," the announcement states.
The statement adds the ACSO will continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate "the process over the next few days."
It adds, "Our intent is to lift the temporary burn ban at the earliest possible convenience."
