Special districts announce May elections

Election activity resumes this month in Archuleta County as several special districts in the area seek nominations for director seats to be filled during May elections.

In addition to the Upper San Juan Health Service District, detailed in the Jan. 30 edition of The SUN, the following districts have also announced upcoming elections, scheduled for early May. 

Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District 

Three directors will be elected to serve four-year terms during the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District election, scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from Designated Election Official (DEO) Renee Lewis at 100 Lyn Ave. Lewis can be reached via email at DEO@pawsd.org; self-nomination forms are also available at www.pawsd.org/district-business/pawsd-board-of-directors.

The deadline to submit self-nomination and acceptance forms to the DEO is 5 p.m. on Feb. 28. The deadline to submit an affidavit of intent to be a write-in candidate is 5 p.m. on March 3. Absentee ballot applications can be filed with Lewis from April 22 through 5 p.m. on April 29, and must be returned to the DEO administrative office by 7 p.m. on May 6.

Pagosa Fire Protection District

Three directors will be elected to serve four-year terms, and one director will be elected to serve a two-year term on the Pagosa Fire Protection District board when voting takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from DEO Tomi Bliss, who may be contacted at 165 N. Pagosa Blvd. Bliss can also be reached at (970) 731-4191 or at tbliss@pagosafire.com.

The DEO office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The deadline to submit self-nomination and acceptance forms to the DEO is 5 p.m. on Feb. 28, and the deadline to file absentee ballot applications is 5 p.m. on April 29. 

Piedra Park Metropolitan Improvement District 

Four directors will be elected to serve four- or two-year terms as Piedra Park Metropolitan Improvement District voting gets underway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 5.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from DEO Molly Risinger, whose office is located at 55 Milton Lane in Arboles. Risinger can also be contacted at (970) 946-0240 or piedrapark@yahoo.com.

The deadline to submit self-nomination and acceptance forms to the DEO is close of business on Feb. 28. The deadline to submit an affidavit of intent to be a write-in candidate is close of business on March 3. 

The deadline to file absentee ballot applications is close of business on April 29.

Aspen Springs Metropolitan District

Three directors will be elected to serve four-year terms for the Aspen Springs Metropolitan District when voting gets underway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from DEO Chelsa Windscheffel, whose office is located at 718 Evergreen Drive. The DEO may also be reached at (719) 588-9779 or windscheffelchelsa@gmail.com.

The DEO office is open by appointment only.

Alpha Rockridge Metropolitan District

Three directors will be elected to serve three-year terms for the Alpha Rockridge Metropolitan District during the district’s mail-ballot election. 

There will be no election precinct or polling place, and all ballots must be received by DEO Gary Lansdale no later than May 2.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from alpharockridgeroaddistrict.com and mailed to the DEO at PO Box 5673, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. The DEO can also be reached at (505) 486-1437.

The deadline to submit self-nomination and acceptance forms, as well affidavit of intent to be a write-in candidate forms, is Feb. 27.

Los Pinos Fire Protection District

 The Los Pinos Fire Protection District serves a portion of Archuleta County. 

Two directors will be elected to serve four-year terms when voting gets underway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 6.

Eligible electors interested in serving on the board of directors may obtain self-nomination and acceptance forms from DEO Rebecca Flinders, whose office is located at 275 Browning Ave. in Ignacio. Flinders can be reached by phone at (970) 563-9501.
