Special to The PREVIEW
Solarize Archuleta is a grass-roots, volunteer effort to increase the number of solar electric panels in Archuleta County homes and businesses.
The Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency (4CORE) is coordinating the initiative. 4CORE helps people lower their energy bill using solar energy, suggests energy audits and more.
Solarize Archuleta uses collective purchasing power to offer solar equipment at below-market rates. Then it streamlines the process, from free guidance to initial decision-making, free home and business inspections, financing options to installation.
The goal is for 30 households to sign contracts with Solarize Archuleta before the end of January. The Solarize La Plata County program provided 100 homes with solar, so the local committee felt 30 homes was doable for our area — but we are open to more.
A Solarize Archuleta presentation will be held at Luminosity Talks at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave. from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10.
