On Wednesday, Oct. 27, the Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association will host a 90-minute presentation entitled “Situational Awareness and Survival Mindset.”
The presentation will be held at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Clubhouse located at 230 Port Ave. and will begin at 7 p.m.
The course will focus on strategies and daily practices to reduce your chance of becoming a victim. It will discuss concepts such as:
• Being aware of your surroundings/environment.
• Command presence/body language as a deterrent to an attacker.
• Crime avoidance.
• U.S. Air Force Col. John Boyd’s “OODA Loop” (observe, orient, decide, act).
• U.S. Army Lt. Col. Dave Grossman’s concept of “stress inoculation.”
• “Run, hide, fight.”
The presenter, Chris Boyd, is a retired 30-year veteran of law enforcement in Southern California. He has trained both civilians and members of law enforcement in a variety of topics, including this course and surviving an active-shooter event.
This course is being provided free of cost as a service to the community by the Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association. For those so inclined, donations will be accepted at the door.
