Sip, stroll and support local: Season’s final Wine Walk set for Sept. 24

Posted

Fall is in the air, and there’s no better time to gather downtown and support local.

The final Wednesday Wine Walk of the season will take place Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. along the 400 block of historic Pagosa Street. With leaves beginning to turn and crisp air settling in, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a glass of wine while shopping, strolling and showing support for downtown businesses during construction.

Admission is free, and guests 21 and older can purchase a $10 wine walk pass (cash only) to enjoy three glasses of wine and a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards from downtown businesses.

Shops will stay open late, and the atmosphere has quickly become a new favorite main street event for many locals and visitors. Neighbors run into neighbors, friends catch up and guests discover what makes our downtown special.

“There’s something powerful about a community that keeps showing up,” said Kathleen McFadden, coordinator of the Pagosa Springs Main Street program. “These walks are sparking new energy downtown. They’re fun, yes, but they’re also encouraging people to rediscover local businesses that make our main street district so special.”

Many attendees have shared how much they’ve enjoyed the wine walks this season. Some mentioned that, even after years of living in Pagosa, they had never been inside many of the downtown stores until this event. Others said the experience reminded them just how many unique and locally owned shops our community has to offer. The event has become more than just a social outing; it’s reconnecting people with the heart of our community.

The August Wine Walk drew 200 participants and raised $2,003 for the Main Street Business Assistance Fund, which supports downtown businesses navigating construction-related impacts. Prizes, purchased in the form of local gift cards, help keep the money circulating right here in Pagosa Springs.

The September walk is hosted by Pagosa Springs Main Street and the Pagosa Springs Community Development Corporation, wrapping up a season that would not have been possible without the support of earlier sponsors. The Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Rotary Club, and the Pagosa Springs Rotary Club all helped make the previous events successful.

Check-in starts at 4:30 p.m. on either end of the 400 block. This final walk of the season is a chance to come together, celebrate our downtown and support the businesses that give it life.

The wine walks may be wrapping up for the year, but the message remains clear: supporting downtown does not end when the wine runs out.

Shop local. Dine local. Tell your friends. Every visit makes a difference. Every purchase helps keep the lights on, the doors open and our downtown strong.

Come for the wine, stay for the businesses and help us finish the season strong.
