Shak Powers, regional projects manager for the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado, has been promoted to the deputy director position.

Powers has been with Region 9 for three years and previously served as the administrator of Montezuma County. He is a lifelong Montezuma County resident.

“Shak has very collaborative approach to community and problem solving,” said Laura Lewis Marchino, executive director of Region 9. “He is a proven leader throughout the region, and I am grateful that he has chosen Region 9 EDD to benefit from his many talents. He will be an amazing deputy.”

As deputy director, Powers will take on some Region 9 administrative roles internally with staff, and externally to stakeholders and the larger public, but continue to lead broadband, housing and transportation efforts.

“I’m honored by the opportunity to continue serving the communities of Southwest Colorado in this new role. Region 9 EDD’s success comes from the collaboration and commitment of our entire team and our partners across the region,” said Powers. “I’m grateful to be part of an organization that works every day to strengthen the places we all call home.”

Powers inherits the deputy director position from Brian Rose, who has returned to the private sector after 7.5 years with Region 9.
