September sales tax collections up 7.78 percent over September 2024

Sales tax collections in Archuleta County for the month of September were reported to be up 7.78 percent compared to figures from September 2024, according to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Nov. 6.

Eaton’s report notes that the 7.78 percent increase translates to a total of $128,366.45 more received in September 2025 than in September 2024.

Sales tax collections have been up in the county every month so far this year in the month-to-month comparisons with 2024, with the biggest increase coming in February, which showed an 11.6 percent increase, or $143,191 more.

The smallest increase in sales tax collections in the month-to-month comparison was in August, which saw just a .73 percent increase, or $12,169.21 more than in August 2024.

Sales tax collections in January were up 3.96 percent, or $67,565.22 more than January 2024; March collections were up 9.12 percent, or $129,489.44 more than March 2024; April collections were up 9.32 percent, or $117,621.93 more than April 2024; May collections were up 3.07 percent, or $43,987.42 more than May 2024; June collections were up 4.5 percent, or $75,391 more than June 2024; and July collections were up 2.3 percent, or $42,590.88 more than July 2024.

Those figures translate to an average increase of 5.82 percent per month when comparing figures from January through September 2024 to the same period in 2025.

Through the first nine months of 2025, a total of $760,369 more in sales tax collections has been reported than through the first nine months of 2024.

For the month of September, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,777,641.66 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax revenues, with $886,281.73 going to the county and $888,110.74 going to the town.

Categories that were up in comparison to August 2024, according to Eaton’s data, include:

• Retail Trade at 15.52 percent, or $135,264.17.

• Information at 21.67 percent, or $6,046.63.

• Finance and Insurance at 25.62 percent, or $484.12.

• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 12.38 percent, or $1,645.50.

• Accommodation and Food Services at 7.02 percent, or $22,258.32.

• Miscellaneous at 5.91 percent, or $12,575.52.

Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include:

• Construction at 38.76 percent, or $20,235.65.

• Manufacturing at 22.03 percent, or $18,680.80.

• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 3.03 percent, or $928.85.

• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 27 percent, or $10,044.51.
