At its meeting on April 13, the Archuleta School District Board of Education voted unanimously to extend the contract for Superintendent Dr. Kym LeBlanc-Esparza.
LeBlanc-Esparza began her tenure with the district on July 1, 2020, under a three-year contract slated to expire on June 30, 2023.
“The next item that I would like to bring up is our wonderful superintendent has a contract with us,” board president Bruce Dryburgh said in introducing the topic. “The only thing I’m going to ask the board to deal with is the length of it at this time. We still have lots of budget stuff to do and figure out what we’re paying everybody else.”
Dryburgh noted neither he nor LeBlanc-Esparza saw any problems with the current contract that needed addressed at this time.
Following explaining the length of the contract to his fellow board members, Dryburgh suggested that the board “tack another year on for now ... because we love her.”
With the board signaling agreement, board member Bob Lynch offered a motion to extend LeBlanc-Esparza’s contract to 2024.
The motion was approved unanimously.
“Thank you, sir,” LeBlanc-Esparza said following the vote, adding her appreciation.
