Sales tax collections up 4.5 percent for June

Sales tax collections in Archuleta County for the month of June were up 4.5 percent compared to figures from June 2024, according to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Aug. 8.

Eaton’s report notes that the 4.5 percent increase translates to a total of $75,391 more received in June 2025 compared to June 2024.

Sales tax collections have been up in the county every month so far this year in the month-to-month comparisons with 2024, with the biggest increase coming in February, which showed a 11.6 percent increase, or $143,191 more.

Sales tax collections in January were up 3.96 percent, or $67,565.22 more than January 2024; March collections were up 9.12 percent, or $129,489.44 more than March 2024; and April collections were up 9.32 percent, or $117,621.93 more than April 2024.

For the month of June, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,765,431.67 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax revenues, with $877,207.57 going to the county and $878,471.40 going to the town.

Categories that were up in comparison to June 2024 according to Eaton’s data include:

• Manufacturing at 41.26 percent, or $22,662.76.

• Retail Trade at .98 percent, or $8,959.55.

• Information at 21.79 percent, or $5,636.30.

• Finance and Insurance at 32.8 percent, or $599.54.

• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 4.45 percent, or $1,739.44.

• Accommodation and Food Services at 15.16 percent, or $50,735.57.

• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 16.62 percent, or $5,172.07.

• Miscellaneous at 1.33 percent, or $2,908.07.

There were only two categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison, which include:

• Construction at 19.28 percent, or $7,832.98.

• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 59.24 percent, or $15,189.23.
