Special to The PREVIEW
The Pagosa Pathfinders youth shooting and outdoor organization will kick off its 2014 season with a sign-up and registration meeting at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the CSU Extension building.
This meeting is for everyone interested in the Pathfinders, including parents, family members and those that are current members. We will go over this year’s schedule, discuss safety and introduce the 2014 Pathfinder board and coaches.
The Pathfinders are a local organization open to youth ages 8-18 that offers instruction in firearm handling and safety, as well as outdoor stewardship and responsibility. The organization promotes a family atmosphere and encourages parental involvement.
Participants learn and compete in the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) consisting of eight different disciplines: shotgun, rifle (.22LR), muzzle loader, archery, orienteering, wildlife identification, hunter safety and hunter responsibility.
Funding for the Pathfinders is provided through grants from the Friends of the NRA and Safari Club International. Safety and shooting equipment is available to all participants.
