Tiffany Brodersen, community grant writer and regional grant navigator at the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado, has been selected to serve on the second national Co-Design Group for simpler.grants.gov, a federal initiative aimed at making it easier for individuals and organizations to find and apply for federal funding.
This opportunity places Brodersen among a small, diverse cohort of grant seekers and experts from across the country who will collaborate directly with the Simpler Grants design and development team. The group will work to improve the user experience, remove barriers and ensure that the federal grants process is more accessible, especially for under-resourced communities and organizations.
“I’ve spent nearly 18 years helping rural governments and nonprofits navigate federal grants, and I’ve seen firsthand how overly complex systems prevent important work from getting funded,” said Brodersen. “I’m honored to join this cohort and help shape real solutions that center the voices of those most affected.”
The Co-Design Group is a core part of the Simpler Grants initiative’s commitment to human-centered design. Over a seven-month period, participants will provide feedback, co-create new features and help prioritize improvements based on lived experience with federal grant systems.
The first cohort helped guide the successful implementation of several new features, including the ability for users to save opportunities directly from the results page, and reframed the platform’s vision to better reflect the needs of those applying for funding.
Cohort 2 will build on that work, introducing more interactive design activities, flexible participation options and structured opportunities for peer learning.
