An Oct. 30 crash on U.S. 84 sent a Pagosa Springs man to a Denver area hospital with serious injuries, and he remains there listed in serious condition.

Keagan Smith, 26, of Pagosa Springs, was driving southbound on U.S. 84 last Wednesday when the accident occurred at about 8:40 p.m.

According to Doug Wiersma of the Colorado State Patrol, Smith’s 2005 Toyota Tacoma ran off the right side of the roadway and overcorrected, crossing the highway and exiting off the left side of the roadway.

After leaving the roadway, the pickup rolled two times, then vaulted 161 feet. The Tacoma came to rest on its wheels.

Smith, the vehicle’s only occupant, was ejected during the incident. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt.

No citations were listed in the CSP report as of Tuesday.

Smith was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, then airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood.

On Wednesday, St. Anthony’s listed Smith in serious condition. The Smith family issued a statement Monday:

“Chris, Michele and Cheyenne Smith and extended family are very thankful for all the wonderful prayers and concerns from so many people during this difficult time for Keagan and Cheyenne. We appreciate your continued prayers and support during his long road to recovery.”

Anyone wishing to contribute to Smith’s expenses can do so through the Keagan Smith Donation Fund account at Wells Fargo Bank.
