The third annual Growing Together Summit was held at Fort Lewis College in Durango June 8-11. The conference offered “meaningful and empowering professional development for 21st Century teachers and leaders.”
According to the program, the Summit exemplifies the collaboration of the nine unique school districts that comprise the San Juan BOCES around the goal of meeting the needs of all students by increasing educator effectiveness.
The Summit focused on eight topics including college and career readiness, instructional strategies, evaluation and support, school design and safety, leadership and communication, social and emotional development, and technology.
Several Pagosa teachers and leaders were asked to present at the Summit, including Sabra Miller and Sean O’Donnell. O’Donnell spoke on navigating the new graduation requirements at Pagosa Springs High School, and Miller spoke about the Math Design Collaborative (MDC).
According to the website, the MDC, the topic of Miller’s speech, provides schools with instructional tools needed to help teachers understand and implement the Common Core State Standards or other rigorous standards effectively, while allowing teachers the flexibility to select topics and adapt assignments to their specific instructional plans.
