Pagosa Car Show to feature pinup contest

Posted

Since many of the cars entered into the Pagosa Springs Car Show are classic cars, what better way to celebrate the era of the ‘40s and ‘50s than adding a pinup contest?

Pinup contests at car shows are an iconic and longstanding tradition celebrating not only the glamour and retro styles, but the era’s iconic fashions and spirit of the time. If you attend car shows, you will often see owners of classic cars dressed up in the style of the year of their car.

Of course, everyone is familiar with the pinup girl during World War II. Glamorous photos of many a famous actress such as Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall and Rita Hayworth covered doors, airplane cockpits or walls. The pinup girl has had a lasting presence in car shows all over the nation.

While the Pagosa Springs Car Show had our first attempt at a contest last year, we’re really celebrating the beauties that want to come to the show and enter the pinup contest in the classic style.

The attire is family-friendly and must be appropriate. Contestants will need to be at the show from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and other guidelines for the contest are located on the Chamber’s website under the Car Show graphic on the homepage or at https://pagosachamber.com/pagosa-springs-car-show.html.

The contest will be held on June 14 at Yamaguchi Park in conjunction with the Show and Shine portion of the Car Show. The awards will be given out at approximately 2 p.m.

Now is your time to have some fun, get into the classic style of the era of the ‘30s through the ‘50s and enter the pinup contest, which will be a judged competition. Prizes will be given out to the winner and runner-ups. Questions can be directed to the Chamber at (970) 264-2360.

There will be a lot of other activities going on at the 2025 Car Show. The show has been moved to Yamaguchi Park, and we are excited about the new location. With more convenient parking, people will be able to stroll on South 5th Street to view the cars. Bring the kids and if they get tired of looking at cars, you have the whole park to access for play time. There is more shade, better restrooms and, of course, there will be live music, food and beverages on both the evening of June 13 and on June 14. Friday evening’s entertainment will be the new The Orange Whip Blues Band with Brooks Lindner and crew.

Saturday’s entertainment, playing classic rock and roll, will be The Rock ‘n Rebels with Ron Lowe. This free event is a great opportunity to enjoy a day of classic cars, entertainment, and friends and family time.

If you would like to volunteer at the event, we still have slots open in a variety of areas. Again, just click on the Car Show graphic on the home page of the Chamber’s website, www.pagosachamber.com and that will take you to the Car Show page with all the information for volunteer sign-ups, pinup girl contest guidelines and, of course, registration for your vehicle.

Get ready for a weekend of glitz and glamour, cars and people, both classic and modern.
