October Audubon meeting to focus on bird migration

Posted

Birds are on the move.

Summer birds are heading south for winter homes, and waterfowl that have spent the summer in northern tundras will be showing up in our lakes. Birds like the junco that raise young in forested areas are moving into our yards. They are all a part of the remarkable journeys that migratory birds take twice a year.

We’re planning a meeting about the “Wonders of Bird Migration,” which will include some short films and information on resources available for you to explore.

Find out how to view information from the amazing tools that track birds in flight after the sun goes down.

How does the summer Bird Monitoring Project that Weminuche Audubon conducts in local forests align with studies of migratory birds? What can you do to help birds that travel long distances between summer breeding areas and winter homes? We’d love to hear what differences you have seen this summer in our local birds.

The public is invited to join us at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

We are a welcoming group and always look forward to meeting new people, both those who live here and those passing through. We will meet at 6 p.m. to socialize with appetizers and snacks before the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Please enter through the side door off the parking lot or let us know to open the main door for handicap entrance. In appreciation for our meeting space, we welcome donations of nonperishable food or cash for the church food bank.

For those unable to attend in person, a link to join the meeting on Zoom will be posted on our website, weminucheaudubon.org, prior to the meeting.
