November 2025 sales tax collections down 10.28 percent

Sales tax collections in Archuleta County for November 2025 were reported to be down 10.28 percent compared to figures from November 2024, according to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Jan 7.

Eaton’s report notes that the 10.28 percent decrease translates to a total of $147,513.41 less received in November 2025 compared to November 2024.

Sales tax collections in the county were up in the first nine months of 2025 in the month-to-month comparisons with 2024, with the biggest increase coming in February, which showed a 11.6 percent increase, or $143,191 more.

The smallest increase in sales tax collections in the month-to-month comparison was in August, which saw just a .73 percent increase, or $12,169.21 more in August 2025 than in August 2024.

Sales tax collections in January were up 3.96 percent, or $67,565.22 more than January 2024; March collections were up 9.12 percent, or $129,489.44 more than March 2024; April collections were up 9.32 percent, or $117,621.93 more than April 2024; May collections were up 3.07 percent, or $43,987.42 more than May 2024; June collections were up 4.5 percent, or $75,391 more than June 2024; July collections were up 2.3 percent, or $42,590.88 more than July 2024; and September collections were up 7.78 percent, or $128,366.45 more than September 2024.

Sales tax collections in October 2025 decreased in a month-to-month comparison with October 2024, being down 16.3 percent, or $284,462.27 less than 2024.

According to Eaton’s data, the year-to-date collections when comparing January through November 2025 to January through November 2024 are up 1.82 percent, or $16,990,215.16 for 2025 and $16,685,798.32 for 2024. 

That translates to $304,416.84 more in 2025 than 2024 for those months.

For November 2025, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,286,858.21 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax revenues, with $642,136.15 going to the county and $642,087.78 going to the town.

Categories that were up in comparison to November 2024, according to Eaton’s data, include:

• Manufacturing at 8.73 percent, or $5,076.92.

• Information at 3.47 percent, or $1,019.04.

• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 29.86 percent, or $4,093.99.

Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include:

• Construction at 2.21 percent, or $807.12.

• Retail Trade at 14.03 percent, or $110,118.56.

• Finance and Insurance at 2.38 percent, or $56.90.

• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 20.74 percent, or $5,055.84.

• Accommodation and Food Services at 9.02 percent, or $22,267.89.

• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 1.45 percent, or $292.08.

• Miscellaneous at 8.76 percent, or $19,104.97.
