Special to The SUN
The Pagosa Nordic Club (PNC) is holding its annual early membership drive and Wolf Creek Ski Area season pass drawing tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 26.
For the third year in a row, PNC is conducting an early season membership drive, with all paid memberships before Sept. 26 entered into a drawing for a free Wolf Creek Ski Area season ski pass (a $682 early season pass value and $853 regular season pass value).
The drawing for the free Wolf Creek season pass and other great merchandise and prizes will be held at 6 p.m. at Pagosa Brewing Company, located at 118 N. Pagosa Blvd.
To be eligible for the drawing, you must sign up for your 2014-15 winter PNC season membership at PagosaNordic.com before 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, or show up in person at Pagosa Brewing Company and sign up between 5 and 5:55 p.m. All mailed memberships must be received by Sept. 26. This is a great opportunity to support PNC with the bonus of a chance to win a free ski pass and other great prizes, so don’t wait, sign up now.
PNC is a nonprofit, volunteer organization with a mission “To enhance winter recreational opportunities in Pagosa Springs by maintaining accessible groomed winter trails for skate skiing, classic cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for all ability levels and to encourage and promote the use of these winter trails through education, marketing and events.”
All membership and sponsorship donations are used to cover expenses associated with grooming cross country ski trails.
The amount of volunteer time and money needed for maintaining trails is much more than you might think. The club grooms up to six different trails and invests approximately 650 to 1,300 hours per season of volunteer time for trail grooming and trail preparations, depending on the frequency and amount of snow received. The operating expenses associated with trail grooming, equipment maintenance and trail supplies can exceed $5,000 per season. The club relies on member donations, sponsorships and trail-use donations to cover operational expenses and capital equipment investments.
PNC is seeking more grooming volunteers. If you would like to learn more, please contact the club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
