Never underestimate the importance of networking: garnering new information, meeting a new contact, getting face-to-face with someone you have had on your “need-to-meet” list, and sharing successes and concerns.
This networking opportunity will be available for nonprofit agencies on Aug. 12 at the Community Resource Center’s Southwest Regional Session and Town Hall in Durango. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Durango Elks Lodge.
The event will bring nonprofit agencies, funders and philanthropic organizations together. Think of it as a mini Philanthropy Day. Nonprofit agencies do need to register for the event. You can do so at https://crcamerica.org/programs/regional_convenings/. Tickets are only $25.
The day includes planned networking, facilitated discussions, lunch and a resource fair. If you are a nonprofit agency, get in front of other agencies and funders. You can never network too much.
Human Resource Power Hour Series
Another important educational opportunity will be the Human Resource Power Hour Series hosted by the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado.
The series will begin on Sept. 9 and include virtual sessions that last only an hour a week for six weeks, until Oct. 14. The class is every Tuesday from noon until 1 p.m. The cost is $10 per session or $50 for all six classes.
If you are a new business, if your business is growing, if you have even one employee, or if you are an HR manager in a larger company, it would behoove you to attend this important training.
The labor laws have new requirements and there have been some changes. Are you familiar with all the changes? Topics that will be covered include employee onboarding; labor laws; conflict prevention and resolution; HR policies; and working with volunteers, subcontractors and more.
If you have a question about any of these topics, visit www.swcommunityfoundation.org/hr-power-hour/ to find out more about each of the sessions and sign up individually or for a group of classes.
And, if you are an attendee, you will be entered into a drawing to receive $500 in free HR services. As a business owner, please make sure that you are current with all HR laws and regulations. Invest just a little time and money in what could potentially save you thousands of dollars should you be hit with a HR case.
Grillin’ and Distillin’
Grillin’ and Distillin’ on Aug. 23 at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds is fast approaching. There is still time to enter as a master griller or backyard BBQer. The day will be filled with fun activities and great live music.
The live music for this event includes Tylor Brandon and SolOverLuna. Both are no stranger to the Pagosa music scene, and they will be paying up a storm.
Another new component of the event is the distilling part. We will have multiple distillers from Colorado serving up spirit and whiskey tastings. Just imagine a relaxed afternoon of great BBQ and whiskey. There will also be retail vendors.
Tickets for the event are available online at www.pagosachamber.com for either the BBQ or whiskey tasting, or a combo ticket.
Not a whiskey aficionado? No problem. Other alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for sale by the glass. Don’t miss out on this inaugural event at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds beginning at noon and lasting until about 5 p.m., when the awards will be handed out.
We’re looking forward to seeing you there either as a participant or a spectator.
ColorFest
Don’t forget that ColorFest tickets to the Passport or the Bands and Brews event on Sept. 19 and 20, respectively, are also on sale at www.pagosachamber.com.
The restaurants are really shaping up this year for the Sept. 19 event and we’re getting commitments from breweries as well. Remember that this event will also be moved to Yamaguchi Park. Tickets are available at www.pagosachamber.com.
With fall comes some great Chamber events. Make sure you are a part of the fun.
