Multiple agencies respond to fires along Deep Canyon Road Tuesday

Update: Shortly after 5 p.m. on April 28, the San Juan National Forest reported the three fires burning on San Juan National Forest and Southern Ute jurisdictions were nearing containment "thanks to a quick response from multiple agencies."
 
The agency further relayed, " All three fires, burning south of Chimney Rock on Deep Canyon Road (Forest Road 842) are under investigation to discover their cause."
 
According to the agency, the status of each fire at the time was as follows:
• Deep 1 Fire: Southern Ute lands: 2 acres. This fire is contained and crews are mopping up.

• Deep 2 Fire: Southern Ute lands: 3 acres. Crews are digging fireline and beginning to mop up.
• Deep 3 Fire: San Juan National Forest lands: 2 acres. Crews are working to line and contain the fire.
 
Original: According to the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), at approximately 1 p.m. this afternoon, April 28, resources from the U.S. Forest Service, ACSO, Archuleta County Road and Bridge, Pagosa Fire Protection District, U.S. Wildland Fire Service, Southern Ute Tribal rangers, and Southern Ute Police Department responded to 3 separate fires on USFS 842/SU 152 (Deep Canyon Road).

 
The cause of the fires at this stage is unknown, according to the ACSO. Resources are actively engaged in suppression tactics, and are making progress on containment.
