2019/11/obit-morehead-IMG_2644-300x242.jpgIn loving memory of Merilyn P. Moorhead — born April 1, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and passed away in Greenwood Village, Colo., Nov. 18. Her current residence was Denver, Colo., from 2015-2019 and she lived in Pagosa Springs, Colo., from 1993 to 2015.
Merilyn was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She ultimately settled in Denver, Colo., where she was a homemaker and active volunteer in the Denver Public Schools and League of Women Voters.
In 1993, Merilyn and her partner, Glenn Bergmann, retired to Pagosa Springs, where they built their dream home at Hatcher Lake. She was a loyal pet owner for over 50 years and especially loved their dog Ginger. She was actively involved with Loaves and Fishes, Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, League of Women Voters and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.
Merilyn was an avid reader, fabulous cook and a great seamstress. She was very creative. She enjoyed painting, making crafts and was quite the piano player. She was curious about the world, including political and social issues, nature and animals. She had a heart for helping others and was constantly giving of her time. She enjoyed her connection to the UU church and made many dear friends there. She lived a life she loved, especially during her time in Pagosa Springs.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Senst, of Denver, Colo.; and son Robert Moorhead, of Castle Rock, Colo; her grandchildren: Samantha Ritthaler, Madison Senst and Hunter Senst; sister Sandra Shepoiser, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and brother Dean Paxson and wife Pat, of Sun Lakes, Ariz.
At the family’s request, there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, please kindly make donations in Merilyn’s name to any of the following: Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, Denver Dumb Friends League or Loaves and Fishes Pagosa Springs.
