Mercedes “Mercy” G. Sanchez returned to Eden in her sleep in the early morning of Aug. 14. Her memorial was held at the Pope John Paul ll Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 18.
She was an unmatched chef, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted Catholic and proud member of the Las Guadalupanas Society. She always welcomed anyone into her home with a hug and a home-cooked meal. And no one left without a blessing for a safe journey home.
She is survived by: her daughter, Louella Sanchez-Gross, from Pagosa Springs, Colo.; sons Angelo Sanchez (Stacey), from Colorado Springs Colo., and Gabriel Sanchez, from Detroit, Mich. Her grandchildren: Joseph Sanchez; Theresa Sanchez-Farah (Kal); Rebecca Onkalo (Derek), from Detroit, Mich.; Chelsea and Dylan Sanchez, Trace Sanchez-Gross, Pagosa Springs, Colo.; and Kayla and Kyle Sanchez. Her great-grandchildren: Johnathan Wright, Samuel Sanchez, Kaylee Gonzales, Dominic Farah, Thalia Farah, Julian Farah and unnamed great-grandbaby arriving in February. Mercy also loved her brothers and sisters as well as their families. Her sisters, Ruth Romero (John), Arlene Varos (Dan), and her brother, Jimmy Garcia, (Bernadette) and their family.
