Sales tax collections in Archuleta County have increased every month this year in month-to-month comparisons with 2024.
According to data released from Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on July 8, overall sales tax collections for May 2025 increased 3.07 percent compared to figures from 2024. That equates to $43,987.42 more received in May 2025 than in May 2024.
Sales tax collections in January were up 3.96 percent, or $67,565.22 more than January 2024; February collections were up 11.64 percent, or $143,191.44 more than February 2024; March collections were up 9.12 percent, or $129,489.44 more than March 2024; and April collections were up 9.32 percent, or $117,621.93 more than April 2024.
For the month of May, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,477,890.90 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax revenues, with $734,724.57 going to the county and $734,529.39 going to the town.
Categories that were up in comparison to May 2024, according to Eaton’s data, include:
• Manufacturing at 22.03 percent, or $13,205.27.
• Information at 11.53 percent, or $2,815.71.
• Finance and Insurance at 47.13 percent, or $729.98.
• Accommodation and Food Services at 10.36 percent, or $24,438.81.
• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 2.71 percent, or $762.35.
• Miscellaneous at 6.31 percent, or $12,712.11.
Eaton’s data also identifies categories that were down in comparison to February 2024, which include:
• Construction at 10.99 percent, or $3,146.58.
• Retail Trade at .27 percent, or $2,214.88.
• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 4.38 percent, or $1,049.33.
• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 28.28 percent, or $4,266.02.
