According to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on May 6, sales tax collections in Archuleta County for March were reported to be down 1.01 percent compared to figures from March 2025.
Eaton’s report notes that the 1.01 percent decrease translates to a total of $15,560.32 less received this March compared to March 2025.
For this March, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,389,383.49 from the sales tax, with $694,822.22 going to the county and $694,561.27 going to the town.
January saw a decrease of 10.64 percent ($149,587.01) in sales tax collections, while numbers for February reflected a 1.17 percent increase ($16,020.75). According to data in Eaton’s press release, the year-to-date comparison through the first three months of 2026 show a 3.22 percent decrease, or $138,857.32 less received compared to figures from January through March 2025.
Eaton also notes that three months (January, February and March) of retail marijuana sales tax have been received, with $1,702.12 going to the county and $7,111.85 going to the town.
Categories that were up in comparison to month-to-month comparison according to Eaton’s data include:
• Retail Trade at 1.65 percent, or $13,409.65.
• Information at 6.95 percent, or $1,995.54.
• Finance and Insurance at 61.16 percent, or $928.11.
• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 52.06 percent, or $7,584.18.
• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 13.48 percent, or $2,933.31.
• Miscellaneous at 2.9 percent, or $6,373.43.
Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include:
• Construction at 52.42 percent, or $21,601.40.
• Manufacturing at 17.12 percent, or $10,537.64.
• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 22.68 percent, or $7,242.84.
• Accommodation and Food Services at 3 percent, or $9,492.66.
