Dear Editor:
I hope to goodness I can catch my items before they go to press. Reason — I was given an item that is incorrect and it can cause both you and me embarrassment.
The item was — Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Engler are rejoicing over the arrival of a daughter, Jan. 12. The mother is a niece of Mrs. Raymond Brown of Pagosa, or words to that effect.
It should read Mr. and Mrs. Richard Engler. The mother is the former Miss Shirley Tate of Bayfield. The men are brothers and I was given the wrong name by a well meaning friend who got the boys confused. The first couple have no children. I am sorry and I’ll be more careful in the future.
We will go to Arboles tonight to mail this in hopes it will get there in time. If it doesn’t I’ll make a retraction next week.
Sorry,
Mrs. Etheridge.

It was a dry week in these parts the past seven days and early this week a January thaw was noted in town. Water ran, snow settled, and some of the ice on the streets melted away. There is still plenty of ice on the San Juan River in shady spots and ice is thick and safe at most good fishing lakes in the area.
The storm on January 5-6-7 left 14 inches of new snow on Wolf Creek, bringing the January total fall to 21 inches and the total season fall to 191-1/2 inches, which is below normal. However, there is plenty of time for more snow and there is enough snow for excellent skiing and snowmobiling.
Skiing these days at Wolf Creek Ski Area is rated as excellent. All lifts are operating, as are the lunchroom, ski rental, and ski school facilities. Crowds are light, snow is very good and at the present time Wolf Creek Ski area has the greatest depth of snow of any ski area in the United States. Everything is better in Southwestern Colorado.
