Frank Edmisten is a booster and a promoter. His latest venture is a boy’s summer camp at his ranch on the San Juan river, six miles east of Allison. This new camp is called “Slash-O-Slash Boys’ Summer Camp” and he expects to start out with accommodations for fifty boys. Mr. Edmisten has some attractive literature as advertising and he should have no trouble in putting through this second Allison camp.

The school board of the local district voted this week to start a facilities need study. This study will be conducted by various committees composed of a broad cross section of district residents.
The purpose of the study will be to determine the needs for future facilities, site location, finances, study programs, and several other related topics. Each committee will have one member of the District staff as a resource to provide information requested.
A large number of citizens will be asked to serve on these committees. These citizens have been chosen by the school board and will be notified. Gilbert Davidson, board president said: “Realizing that there are many local residents with deep concern and interest about the local schools we realize that some interested residents may not have been named to a committee.
“Therefore, we are asking that any resident who is interest in helping study the educational needs of the district volunteer to serve on the committee in his field of interest. A coupon may be found in the SUN that can be used by anyone who wants to take part in the educational facility study. We would appreciate having volunteers.”

An Urgent Care Center is open and operating seven days a week at the Dr. Mary Fisher Medical Center on South Pagosa Boulevard.
Operated by the Upper San Juan Hospital District, the 2,800 square-foot facility is located on the south side of the medical center building.
“We opened the center in January,” said hospital district director Bill Bright, “and now we have the center open on Saturdays and Sundays. It is staffed by a physician, and either a nurse or a paramedic.”
The new center includes two treatment areas, with one area serving as a critical care station, a private examining room, a station for physicians and nurses, and an x-ray machine.
According to Bright, the Urgent Care Center does not take regular medical appointments. “This center,” he said, “is strictly for emergency care, with patients coming to us as walk-ins or by ambulance. This center increases our ability to treat, stabilize and transport patients needing urgent care.”
