There is a full page advertisement in today’s Sun. Dodge Brothers Inc., announces a “Tremendous Price Reduction” in their complete line of motor cars.

The exact amount of the reduction will not be made public until the 7th of January, but the new prices go into effect on the 15th of this month and the full amount of reduction will be refunded to all purchasers since that date. While the reduction is not known at present, it will no doubt be a substantial one.

These revolutionary reductions are made possible by a recently completed $10,000,000 expansion program. Extensive additions, new  buildings and equipment costing approximately $10,000,000 have just been installed by Dodge Brothers at their plant at Detroit which will nearly double the capacity of the plant in 1926.

The local Dodge agency, the City Garage, will inform the public of the new prices just as soon as they receive the information.

The long awaited and much needed work on the town’s streets has been progressing very satisfactorily the past month and the results are very evident. The back street has been graveled all the way around to the highway, most of the side streets to the highway have received gravel as have the park hill and other small areas around town. The alleys in the business section have also been graveled.

The bridge across the San Juan has had a new floor installed, making it more safe for autos and pedestrians. Most of the culverts and bar ditches have been cleaned out so that there should not be the usual mud this coming spring.

The members of the town board stated that more work may be scheduled for next spring in the April budget. Funds for this year are expended, however, and the remaining money is being saved for snow plowing. The county has cooperated very nicely with the town in the project, making it possible for the town to accomplish more work that would have otherwise been possible. They have donated the use of the crusher and other equipment as well as the labor of some county jail prisoners.

Santa Claus will be in town Saturday at the Pagosa Theatre. All children 10 years of age and younger are invited and they will also get to see a free movie. Too, there will be sacks of candy for the youngsters.

More snow on Wolf Creek Pass last week, 54 inches to be exact. That isn’t a small storm by any standards. The snowfall helped the snow pack, slowed traffic and made for fantastic skiing at the Wolf Creek Ski Area.

The Jaycees are sponsoring a snowman building contest for children 12 and under. The snowmen must be built by Monday at 1 p.m. but entries may be made prior to that time at Andy’s Barber Shop or Pagosa Hardware. There are some healthy prizes.

The bicentennial committee grand ball held last Saturday night was an outstanding success. Many local residents of the county honored, see some dance exhibitions, enjoy dancing and a fine buffet supper. It would appear from the sentiments expressed that a repeat will be scheduled for next year.

When does a private home cease to become one?

Does it happen when the owner — or his agent — starts advertising it for rent at $250 per night or $1,000 per week while extolling “it sleeps 12 comfortably?”

Dick Akin believes such action makes it no longer a private home and, in effect, a motel or commercial lodging facility which is illegally operating in a residential single-family land use category.

He brought this idea to the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association board of directors Dec. 14, demanding that action be taken to stop such use on a tract in Pagosa Highlands.

Saying he represented a group of 14 subdivision residents who want the use stopped, Akin noted, “I have filed three complaints and have gotten no report from anyone on what action is being taken.

“If you have a barking dog or the wrong color of paint, you are immediately cited for your violation of restrictions in bylaws,” Akin said. “Why isn’t something done about this kind of operation?”
