Larry Glen Ayers passed away Thursday, March 15, at home, surrounded by family. He was 60 years old.
Larry was born April 24, 1957, to Wilson W. and Vera Jane (Thrailkill) Ayers in Slaton, Texas. He grew up in Slaton and graduated high school. He then began working for the Santa Fe Railroad in Texas and Colorado. He was married to Cathey Hull in 1979 and though the marriage ended, two wonderful children were brought about by the union. After the railroad, He worked with his brother, Gary, in the telecommunications industry and traveled the entire country. He officially retired in 2014. Upon learning of his illness, the family supported his move to Pagosa Springs, Colo., (that he loved so much) to follow through with his last days.
His passion was music and people. He was a talker and loved to connect with complete strangers.
He is survived by his children: Cassi Ann Ayers and Austin Brooks Ayers; siblings: twin brother Gary, Melba McAbee and Kathy (Bret) Bond; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by a brother, James “Jimmy” Ayers, parents and brother-in-law Wayne McAbee.
Services will be held at a later date in Lubbock, Texas.
