July sales tax collections down compared to 2025

According to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Sept. 4, sales tax collections in Archuleta County for July were reported to be down 1.12 percent compared to figures from July 2025. 

Eaton’s report notes that the 1.12 percent decrease translates to a total of $21,331.76 less received this July compared to July 2025. 

For this past July, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,876,452.16 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax, with $936,431.36 going to the county and $936,376.02 going to the town. 

January saw a decrease of 10.64 percent ($149,587.01) in sales tax collections, while numbers for February reflected a 1.17 percent increase ($16,020.75). March figures reflected a 1.01 ($15,560.32) percent decrease, while numbers for April reflected a 9.07 percent decrease ($125,110.70). May figures also showed a decrease of .48 percent ($6,553.63). June figures showed a 1.63 ($28,804) percent increase. 

According to data in Eaton’s press release, the year-to-date comparison for January through July of this year shows a 2.23 percent decrease, or $240,842.44 less received compared to figures from January through July 2025. 

Eaton’s report notes that a total of $10,557,508.40 in sales tax has been collected so far this year. 

Categories that were up in the month-to-month comparison, according to Eaton’s data, include: 

• Manufacturing at 7.93 percent, or $5,898.24. 

• Finance and Insurance at 55.11 percent, or $1,389.38. 

• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 24.33 percent, or $9,581.51. 

• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 1.05 percent, or $119.53. 

• Miscellaneous at 11.26 percent, or $25,010.46. 

• Accommodation and Food Services at 3.21 percent, or $6,291.78. 

Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include: 

• Construction at 34.15 percent, or $10,961.78. 

• Retail Trade at 2.74 percent, or $28,380.24. 

• Information at 20.78 percent, or $6,243.58. 

• Accommodation and Food Services at 3.69 percent, or $15,485.97. 

• Other Services (except Public Administration) at 7.74 percent, or $2,286.31.
