Special to The PREVIEW

Mary and Fred Webb’s beautiful gardens at 458 Handicap Ave. will be the site for the June meeting and annual picnic of Mountain View Homemakers Club on Thursday, June 13, at 11:30 a.m.

All women are urged to attend. Members are to bring picnic-type foods, and visitors are not expected to bring anything. It is always a fun event, and a great way to get to know the other women. Plates, cups, utensils and drinks will be provided.

Parking is limited, so all who plan to attend should seek out others to ride with them. Handicap is a secondary road and on-street parking could result in a ticket. So, the Webb drive and a couple of drives nearby will have signs offering parking.

Since this will be the last meeting before the club’s annual auction on Thursday, July 13, all who have items for any of the three types of auctions are urged to bring them. The live auction will contain about a dozen outstanding items. The extensive silent auction will have the majority of wonderful things, while the bag auction is one of the most fun parts of the day. Finger foods will be served during the auction, making it possible for men and women to fill their plates and cruise around, placing bids and getting bargains.

The Homemakers organization is a monthly gathering of women who are interested in making the lives of their families and their community more livable. All meetings include lunch and either speakers or a hands-on-community project. The July auction and the November Holiday Bazaar are fund-raisers that result in contributions to about a dozen local non-profit organizations. Mountain View Homemakers has no dues, and membership is automatic when a woman attends her second meeting and says she wants to be a member.
