Goal Academy, a public online charter high school, started the 2013-2014 school year on Aug. 19, but it is not too late to register.

Open enrollment for students ages 14 -21 will continue until Oct. 1. Applications are available online at www.goalac.org.

Students in Pagosa Springs can come to the drop-in center at 100 Country Center Drive Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for assistance with an application or just to visit and speak with staff and other students about Goal. Students in Cortez can fill out applications by going to the above website, or by stopping by the new Goal drop-in center at 19 North Maple Ave. Students in surrounding communities between Cortez and Pagosa Springs needing assistance with an application can call (970) 576-8076.

Goal academy is a free public school opportunity for students throughout Colorado to earn an accredited Colorado Department of Education high school diploma. Goal combines online learning with experiential learning, on-site classes such as film study courses and chess class, self-designed electives, and concurrent enrollment opportunities for students who excel and want to earn college credit while still in high school. Goal offers students flexibility so that they can juggle school, work and family commitments without the stress of doing “seat time” to complete graduation requirements. Academic coaches and support staff are on site to provide face-to-face assistance. Course assistance provided by highly qualified content specialists is available online from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Students can work independently seven days a week, 24 hours per day.
