Gene Doyle Johnson was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Farmersville, Texas. Sadly, Gene passed away Aug. 13, 2026.
Gene was the youngest of three children born to Jess T. and Cora Lee Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Claudia (Gathercoal); his children, Michael (Carla), Tracy (Richard), Curtis (Julie) and Dereck (Nicole); eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four nieces; and his brother, Wayne.
Gene was an avid golfer, fisherman, and successful business owner in Durango, operating the Galloping Goose Gift Store for 25 years. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Latter-day Saints.
Gene will be laid to rest in Bayfield, Colo., on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m.
