Update, 11:44 a.m., July 31: Fire crews are mopping up the small 1/2-acre Spence Fire. The fire stayed inside containment lines and produced minimal smoke and heat last night, and crews are expecting to be wrapped up with operations later today.
Update, 6:50 p.m., July 30: A local engine crew on the Pagosa Ranger District is on-scene of the Spence Creek Fire working to establish containment around the fire.
The crew will spend tonight building line and spraying water to create a "wet line" around the fire. A morning update will be provided to follow up the status.
Original: Firefighters on the San Juan National Forest are responding to a small 1/2-acre fire named the Spence Creek Fire along U.S. 84, approximately 15 miles south of Pagosa Springs and 5 miles north of Chromo.
Resources have been dispatched to investigate the area and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
