Special to The PREVIEW

Join the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) at the third Colorado Environmental Film Festival Caravan Saturday, July 18. The historic Liberty Theatre is the site of a medley of the best environmental films of 2015, shared with Pagosa Springs by the CEFF in Golden.

Films will be shown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Audiences will enjoy three feature-length films and three short films.

“Dancing With Thoreau” reminds us of American icon Henry David Thoreau’s advice in connecting with nature, even in our modern world. “Terra Firma” is an inspiring story of three women combat veterans who find renewed purpose in raising food for their communities. “The Fire Line: Wildfire in Colorado” examines four years of record-breaking wildfires and the effects on Coloradans who live in red zones after a century of fire suppression.

Saturday evening at 6 p.m., the GGP will host a gala celebration at Farrago’s patio and the Back Room Wine Bar. Wildlife and landscape photography sales will benefit the GGP and films will be shown into the evening in the Back Room Wine Bar.

Sunday morning, GGP supporters will meet for a guided hike with surprise performances. Hikers will gather at the trailhead off Mill Creek Road at 10 a.m. Expect to meet some of American history’s foremost environmental voices on the morning walk — Henry David Thoreau, Rachel Carson, and even Edward Abbey could make an appearance.

This summer, the GGP and the Town of Pagosa Springs are preparing the Centennial Park site for greenhouse construction. The Film Festival, Gala Celebration and guided hike will raise funds for the first of three greenhouses.

An adult wristband for the entire weekend is $50, but any donation is welcome at the Liberty Theatre, Farrago’s patio or the Willow Draw trailhead.

A contribution of $50 or more buys the donor membership privileges in the GGP through December 2016. All donations are tax deductible. A donation of $250 or more receives an extra Enterprise Zone tax benefit of 25 percent. Donations can be made at www.pagosagreen.org. Call 799-1693 for more information.
