Edna Marie Hill Magnuson, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at the age of 103 and 7 months at Beehive Care Center in Pagosa Springs.

Edna was born at home on Dec. 28, 1922, near the small town of Allendale, Mo. She graduated from Grant City High School (Missouri) and the school of hard knocks. Surviving the hard times of the 1920s in the back country of Missouri, she grew up determined to make a good life for herself and family regardless of the challenges.

Married to John L. Magnuson in 1970, Edna and Johnny lived in Villisca, Iowa, and enjoyed their snow bird travel adventures. After John’s passing in 1993, Edna moved to Mesa, Ariz., full-time and continued to live an active life.

Edna was the final direct descendant of the Reas and Grace (Savacool) Hill family. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Ben Hill, LaCasta Hill Lindsay, Dorothea Hill Norris, Pat Hill, Don Hill, Bill Hill, Beulah Hill Hutchinson and Althea Hill Spillman.

She is survived by her children: Patsy Woodyard Ward (David Malcom), Larry Woodyard (Janice, deceased), David Woodyard, and Elata Woodyard Van Horn (Stephen), Max Magnuson (Marge) and Janice Magnuson Freeze (deceased).

Edna had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and shirt-tail relatives.

Edna was very talented in her diverse passions: artistry, gardening, handwork, playing pool, dancing and socializing with all her wonderful friends

Always creating, Edna will be remembered for her unwavering love for family, flowers, birds and making beautiful things.

Her peaceful passing fully revealed her blooming love for the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral Mass will be held at John Paul II Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs, Colo., on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026,at 10 a.m.

A funeral service will be held at Wolfe-Billings Funeral Chapel, 201 E. 4th St., Villisca, Iowa, on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at Villisca Cemetery.
