Are you looking for a fun day of hands-on exploration in nature? Do you want to discover the incredible biodiversity found right here in Pagosa Country? Would you like to work directly with community experts to learn about our local ecosystem?
If you said yes to any of these questions, then the inaugural Archuleta County Bioblitz on June 20 is just for you.
A bioblitz is a fun and relaxed community science event where experts, community members and volunteers work together to document and record the biodiversity of an area.
This year, participants will explore the natural areas along the San Juan Riverwalk and Reservoir Hill while collecting valuable ecological information. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and appreciate the vibrant life that thrives right here in Archuleta County.
This project allows participants to connect directly with the ecosystem while contributing valuable data for scientific research. The information collected helps scientists track changes in biodiversity, monitor trends in local habitats, and identify newly arrived or rare species. Your contributions will provide critical insights into the health and diversity of this natural area.
Our Bioblitz is a family-friendly event and no experience is necessary. Participants must be 10 years or older, and youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
While this is not a strenuous project, volunteers should be prepared for walking on uneven terrain, through high grass, past thorny plants and in possibly muddy conditions.
The cost is $25 per adult and $10 per student/child and includes dinner, a T-shirt and a fun day of learning. Register by June 5 to receive a T-shirt.
