According to data released by Archuleta County Finance Director Chad Eaton on Feb. 5, sales tax collections in Archuleta County for December 2025 were reported to be up 15.24 percent compared to figures from December 2024.
Eaton’s report notes that the 15.24 percent increase translates to a total of $218,605.66 more received in December 2025 compared to December 2024 — the biggest increase in sales tax collections in the month-to-month comparison between 2025 and 2024.
Sales tax collections were also up 2.97 percent, or $547,003.06, in the year-to-year comparison from 2024 to 2025.
According to data provided by Eaton, sales tax collections in the county have increased in year-to-year comparisons nine out of 10 years since 2016.
The last decrease seen in a year-to-year comparison was from 2022 to 2023, when total collections dropped 1.25 percent. Increases for the other years ranged from 2.97 percent increase in 2025 up to a 21.56 percent increase that was reported in 2020.
The year-to-year comparisons show a 3.27 percent increase in 2024, a 3.69 percent increase in 2022, a 19.7 percent increase in 2021, a 16.78 percent increase in 2019, a 3.52 percent increase in 2018, a 7.25 percent increase in 2017 and a 9.01 percent increase in 2016.
Sales tax collections in the county were up in the first nine months of 2025 in the month-to-month comparisons with 2024. Prior to December 2025 data being released, the biggest increase came in February 2025, which showed an 11.6 percent increase, or $143,191 more.
Decreases were seen in October 2025 and November 2025 month-to-month comparisons.
The smallest increase in sales tax collections in the month-to-month comparison was in August 2025, which saw just a .73 percent increase, or $12,169.21 more in August 2025 than in August 2024.
Sales tax collections in January 2025 were up 3.96 percent, or $67,565.22 more than January 2024; March 2025 collections were up 9.12 percent, or $129,489.44 more than March 2024; April 2025 collections were up 9.32 percent, or $117,621.93 more than April 2024; May 2025 collections were up 3.07 percent, or $43,987.42 more than May 2024; June 2025 collections were up 4.5 percent, or $75,391 more than June 2024; July 2025 collections were up 2.3 percent, or $42,590.88 more than July 2024; and September 2025 collections were up 7.78 percent, or $128,366.45 more than September 2024.
Sales tax collections in October 2025 decreased in a month-to-month comparison with October 2024, being down 16.3 percent, or $284,462.27 less than 2024.
For December 2025, Eaton notes that the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County received a total of $1,923,341.93 from the sales tax and retail marijuana sales tax revenues, with $961,779.69 going to the county and $958,284.72 going to the town.

• Miscellaneous at 13.01 percent, or $30,896.81.
Categories that were down in the month-to-month comparison include:
• Construction at .16 percent, or $48.54.
• Information at 7.97 percent, or $2,431.23.
• Real Estate, Rental and Leasing at 23.28 percent, or $6,720.84.
• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 6.66 percent, or $936.33.
Categories that were up in 2025 to 2024 year-to-year comparisons, according to Eaton’s data, include:
• Manufacturing at 16.4 percent, or $125,487.16.
• Retail Trade at .65 percent, or $66,003.
• Information at 7.59 percent, or $24,338.26.
• Finance and Insurance at 15.68 percent, or $3,518.94.
• Accommodation and Food Services at 9.3 percent, or $313,056.76.
• Miscellaneous at 6.38 percent, or $159,767.19.
• Professional, Scientific and Technical Services at 29.86 percent, or $4,093.99.
Categories that were down in the year-to-year comparison include:
