CSU programs and resources to welcome winter season

Posted

The holidays are upon us, and Colorado State University (CSU) Extension is excited to celebrate the snowy season with our community. We are offering holiday-themed programs and we have resources to prepare you for the winter season.

Have you ever wondered why cranberries float or what health benefits they offer? Join CSU Extension staff for our Can your own Cranberry Sauce workshop on Friday, Nov. 21, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the CSU Extension building. Terry Schaaf and Cindi Galabota will lead you through safe, research-based techniques for effective food preservation methods at our altitude. You also will learn about the natural history of cranberries, discover other fun facts and take home your own jar of delicious, homemade cranberry sauce. The cost to attend is $25 and preregistration is required. Call today. Please call (970) 264-5931 or visit www.archuleta.extension.colostate.edu to register.

Galabota and Judy Brennan (adult and teen services coordinator with the Ruby Sisson Library) are thrilled to join forces to offer a free tree and wreath-making workshop on Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at the 4-H Hall, located at the fairgrounds. You will learn about the natural history of trees around the world and those that call Colorado home. Then, you will make your very own wreath or centerpiece that you can display throughout the winter. You may also learn a thing or two about the history of wreath making in many cultures. Class size is limited and filling up quickly. Please call the Ruby Sisson Library at (970) 264-2209 to register today.

Are you looking for winter resources? We offer a variety of resources for our community. Questions? Call (970) 264-5931 or email cindi.galabota@colostate.edu.

Leave a can, take a can

The CSU Extension office has set up a food pantry shelf at the entrance to our building. If you feel so inclined, you may leave nonperishable items on the shelf. If you are in need, feel free to stop by and take what your family can use.

CPR and first aid classes

CPR and first aid certification classes are offered every other month at the CSU Extension office, generally on the third Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m. The cost for the classes is $80 for combined CPR/first aid and $55 for CPR, first aid or recertification. Call the Extension office at (970) 264-5931 to register.
