County fair to offer fun for all ages

This year’s county fair is full of new activities and entertainment and the return of some of the old favorites. Cut out the following schedule so you don’t miss any of the fun. See you at the fair.

Every day of fair

9 a.m.-6 p.m. — Kids ride the train free/kid games tent.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Vendors/food.

9 a.m.-6 p.m. — Petting farm.

10 a.m.-8 p.m. — Various entertainment and shows.

9 a.m.-9 p.m. — Exhibit Hall and Stith Room are open, and 4-H class entries and displays, unless otherwise noted.

Saturday, July 23

9 a.m. — Exhibit Hall: 4-H dog show.

Saturday, July 30

8 a.m. — Stith Room: Quilt entering/judging.

Sunday, July 31

7-8 a.m. — Rodeo arena: Horse show registration.

9 a.m. — Rodeo arena: Horse show (open and 4-H).

Monday, Aug. 1

8 a.m.-noon— Stith Room: 4-H project interviews and judging.

Tuesday Aug. 2

1-8 p.m. — Exhibit Hall: Open class entries are brought in and tagged.

Wednesday, Aug. 3

7:30-9 a.m. — Exhibit Hall: Open class perishables (baked goods, floriculture and horticulture) received

Noon — Activity tent: Volunteer and judges lunch.

7:30 p.m. — Livestock tent: Beef grooming clinic.

Thursday, Aug. 4

Fair starts.

9 a.m. — Livestock tent: Goat shows — 4-H, open and showmanship.

Noon — Livestock tent: Lamb show — 4-H, open and showmanship.

Noon — Activity tent: Dr. Barb Shaw, STEM.

1 p.m. — Activity tent: Pie-eating contest — adult and youth divisions.

2 p.m. — Activity tent: Baked pie contest.

2 p.m. — Livestock tent: 4-H turkey show and showmanship.

3 p.m. — Activity tent: Silent pie auction starts, ends on Friday at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 7

The fair buildings and tents close at 6 p.m.

8 a.m. — Rodeo arena: Kids’ rodeo late registration.

8 a.m. — Fiber Festival opens to the public.

10 a.m. — Activity tent: Homemade ice-cream contestants arrive.

11 a.m. — Activity tent: Pie-eating contest — adult and youth divisions.

Noon — Rodeo arena: Kids’ rodeo.

Noon — Activity tent: Dr. Barb Shaw, STEM.

1 p.m. — Jicarilla drummers.

2 p.m. — 4-H animals loaded on semi truck.

2 p.m. — Homemade ice cream contest samples open to the public.

2 p.m. — Homemade ice cream contest judging begins.

2 p.m. — Activity tent: Dr. Barb Shaw, STEM.

3 p.m. — Activity tent: Awards given for homemade ice cream contest.

4 p.m. — Livestock tent: All private haulers must remove animals.

4 p.m.-6 p.m. Exhibit Hall: Release of open class projects to entrants and premiums paid.

4-6 p.m. — Stith Room: Release of 4-H class projects to entrants.

4 p.m. — Fiber Festival: Closes and all animals and items removed.

4:30 p.m. — Livestock tent: Tear down; all 4-H’ers are required to help.

6 p.m. —Fair closes until next year.

Check the Bill of Fair at the information booth for the latest event additions and updates. There will be various demonstrations each day as well as contests and events that are not listed here.

CPR and first aid certification 

CPR and first aid certification classes are now being offered monthly by the CSU Extension office on the second Monday and Wednesday of each month from 6 to 10 p.m. Anyone needing to receive or renew certification can register by calling the Extension office at 264-5931.

We will also schedule classes on additional dates with five or more registrations. Cost for the classes is $80 for combined CPR/first aid and $55 for individual CPR or first aid. The type of first aid information provided will vary by the needs of the audience. Group rates are available. Call the Extension office for information at 264-5931.
