As the school year rapidly approaches and you prepare to send your children into the hands of the Archuleta School District (ASD), it is important to understand the approach teachers and administrators will be taking on your child’s education.
The ASD is operating under a strategic framework, which serves as a detailed mission statement regarding the educational and personal development the district hopes to see in each student.
Over the next few weeks, The SUN will publish a series on the district’s strategic framework to inform parents, students and community members of the district’s mindset and goals as we head into a new academic year.
Background
In December 2013, just after Bruce Dryburgh and Brooks Lindner were elected, the ASD board and superintendent, Linda Reed, attended a retreat. The retreat sparked discussion on three central goals the board wanted to see accomplished.
In addition to increasing professionalism within the school district and creating an evaluation process for the superintendent, the school board asked Reed to design a strategic plan.
In March of 2014, Reed gathered teachers from every grade level, each school’s principal, Assistant Superintenden David Hamilton, parents and community members to begin formulating the framework.
Reed brought in outside facilitators to lead focus groups, as well as to conduct secondary research on education at the national, state, regional and local levels.
