Did you know that Pagosa has two AmeriCorps members serving our community this school year?
Alissa Zissman and Elizabeth Mieritz of Pagosa Springs are serving our students as Check and Connect Mentors at the Pagosa Springs Middle School and the Pagosa Springs High School, respectively. Along with serving students in our community, these two AmeriCorps members also participate in service projects throughout the school year.
Last month, they coordinated donations for the third-annual Colorado Reads Book Drive. The books they collected were donated to Seeds of Learning for preschool students to enjoy. The book drive is one way to ensure Colorado’s children become successful readers by third grade.
This month, your local AmeriCorps members are organizing activities for Kick Butts Day: A national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up against tobacco use in their community.
Next month, AmeriCorps members will meet with Mayor Ross Aragon to celebrate the nationwide Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service.
