A Safe Place in Pagosa Inc., doing business as Aspen House and Aspen Services, was approved as an Enterprise Zone contribution project by the State Economic Development Commission (EDC) in November.
This designation allows donors contributing $250 or more to claim a 25 percent state tax credit and a 12.5 percent state tax credit on in-kind donations. This credit is in addition to the federal tax deduction for contributing to any 501 (c)(3) organization.
Contributions to A Safe Place in Pagosa Inc. will be used to help build supportive housing (Aspen House), provide daily living service and create job training activities for adults with developmental disabilities. This includes running PS FroYo, the frozen yogurt café that Aspen Services operates to provide supported employment opportunities in customer service, food preparation and general operations.
“Enterprise Zone tax credits give our community a powerful way to invest in the future of the people we serve,” said Pattie Copenhaver, executive director. “Donations help us move closer to breaking ground on Aspen House while also expanding our vocational skills training and supported employment programs through Aspen Services. They allow us to turn generosity into action — building a group home, creating jobs and strengthening lives right here at home.”
Currently, 25 Enterprise Zone projects are designated in Southwest Colorado. A list of those projects and program information is available at www.region9edd.org.
