Sometimes I try to imagine what it must have been like for God the Father to turn His face away from Jesus on the cross.
I feel like that fact is something that I have not seen discussed often.
How it must have felt to see your one and only child bearing the weight of all the hatred and sin in all the world, to see your child so burdened that you can no longer look at them.
And how it must have felt for Jesus? God is always watching us, always caring for us, and Jesus must have felt His Father turn away.
We perhaps can’t feel it, but God’s presence is with us at all times. He is like the warmth of summer, not appreciated enough until the chill of winter sweeps it away.
So many of the most beautiful things in life are the things we appreciate afterward: A parent’s discipline or a newborn’s cry. Seemingly oppressive at the time — much like how God’s Grace can feel to our worldly bodies — but seen afterward as they truly are: a gift.
I never want to take that gift for granted. I want to always have the capacity to appreciate that gift. The gift of peace, of prayer and the ability to share those blessings.
