Archuleta School District (ASD) is thrilled to bring “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition” to Pagosa Springs this summer.
The ASD junior musical directors are looking for energetic, creative young performers to bring Bikini Bottom to life.
The dynamic, high-energy stage show is open to young performers throughout the Pagosa Springs area.
Based on the beloved animated series, the musical follows SpongeBob and the citizens of Bikini Bottom as they face the impending eruption of a nearby volcano. When faced with the destruction of their undersea home, an unexpected hero steps forward to prove that optimism and community cooperation can save the world.
Eligibility requirements
Auditions are open to all area students, including those from public, private and home-school backgrounds. To participate, students must be 11 to 15 years old and entering sixth through ninth grades for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
Note: All participating students must complete mandatory audition paperwork prior to the audition, and at least one parent or guardian is required to attend an initial informational meeting.
Production and audition schedule
Auditions will take place in the Pagosa Springs Middle School (PSMS) music rooms, with subsequent rehearsals and performances moving to Pagosa Springs High School (PSHS).
• Audition workshop: Monday, June 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (PSMS). While optional, organizers highly recommend this workshop for new students to familiarize themselves with the audition process.
• Individual auditions: Monday, June 1, from noon to 4:30 p.m. (PSMS). Time slots must be reserved via the official sign-up sheet.
• Team building and dance auditions: Monday, June 1, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (PSMS). Attendance is mandatory for all students auditioning.
• Parent meeting: Monday, June 1, from 5:30 to 6 p.m. (PSMS). At least one parent or guardian must attend.
• Callbacks: Wednesday, June 3, from 9:30 a.m. to noon (PSMS). As needed for designated students.
Rehearsals and showtimes
Following the casting process, intensive daily rehearsals will run from Aug. 3 through Aug. 13 (excluding Aug. 8 and 9) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at PSHS. A final evening dress rehearsal will be held on Aug. 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The public performance schedule at PSHS is as follows:
• Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.
• Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
• Aug. 15 at 2 p.m.
Area youth interested in lead roles or ensemble positions are encouraged to prepare their vocal and dance presentations for the June 1 audition date.
