Wolf Creek Ski Area will be opening for the season on Saturday, Nov. 22.
According to its website, “The Nova, beginner lift, will be operating from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with both Susan’s and Nova runs open for skiing and snowboarding. We are still waiting for Mother Nature to help out so more terrain can open as we get closer to Thanksgiving.”
The website notes that the main day lodge will be open serving a limited menu that includes burgers, fries and chili, and the Pathfinder bar will also be open.
Skis and snowboards are available to rent. Ski patrol and ski school will also be available.
Forecast
Pagosa Country is expected to receive snowfall late this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting snow showers on Wolf Creek Pass starting Sunday, Nov. 16.
According to the NWS, snow showers are likely mainly after 11 a.m. on Sunday with a chance of precipitation starting at 60 percent during the day and increasing to 80 percent that night. Some thunder is also possible with a high of 33 degrees and a low of 21 degrees.
The NWS also indicates chances of snow Monday, Nov. 17, through Wednesday, Nov. 19.
According to a forecast posted on Nov. 12 by Shawn Prochazka with Pagosa Weather, snow totals from late Saturday, Nov. 15, through Monday, Nov. 17, are predicted at 5 to 10 inches for mountains above 10,000 feet, 1 to 2 inches for valleys above 8,500 feet and a dusting to 1 inch for valleys between 8,500 to 7,500 feet.
Prochazka also predicts another round of snow to move through the area beginning Tuesday, Nov. 18, through Saturday, Nov. 22.
“Timing and snow amounts are uncertain,” Prochazka wrote.
A “rough” snow forecast for that time period shows 5 to 10 inches for mountains above 9,000 feet, 2 to 4 inches for valleys above 7,600 feet and 1 to 2 inches for valleys below 7,600 feet.
