Winter storm expected to cause difficult road conditions

Drivers urged to consider limiting travel or expect delays due to safety closures, especially over mountain passes

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews are preparing for the next anticipated rounds of winter weather to hit southwest and south-central Colorado beginning tomorrow evening and lasting through Thursday night.

Heavy snow accumulations are expected for all mountain ranges of southwest and south-central Colorado. Travel is expected to be difficult on all regional mountain passes with blowing snow and low visibility. Freezing temperatures will also create icy and slick road conditions.

If possible, avoid or limit travel. If you must travel, expect potential safety closures due to the forecasted adverse weather conditions. Check COtrip.org often for updates about road conditions and closures.

Today, regional CDOT crews started 24/7 snow shifts and will be pre-treating and plowing roadways as needed. Periodic road closures can also be expected on mountain passes to allow for avalanche mitigation operations.
