‘We Need a Little Christmas’ concerts to be presented by Pagosa Springs Community Choir

The Pagosa Springs Community Choir is here to present our annual program this year, “We Need a Little Christmas.”

As the song goes, we need a little laughter and we need a little music. We would like to share laughter and music with you.

We will be performing in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m.

Our production this year is a great mix of well-known holiday favorites and a couple of challenging arrangements, given to make sure the singers are awake and paying attention. We again thank Dan Burch, our director, for always leading with patience and a smile. Also, thanks to Venita Burch, our accompanist, who puts in many, many hours that the rest of us do not see; but, boy, we are all amazed to hear her play the piano. Thanks to both for all they do behind the scenes and in our rehearsals to help us understand complicated music.

This year’s choir has 85 singers — a larger group than last year. Our choir members come from every walk of life here in Pagosa. We have all ages of participants from high schoolers to wise retirees and every age in between. We have been practicing since September and are excited to share our efforts with you.

Every year, the Pagosa Springs Community Choir performs a section of songs in the round a cappella, with the choir members standing on the auditorium floor, surrounding the audience as we sing. It is a glorious experience in musical surround sound and a live performance that fills the air and the heart. Come and share a wonderful experience of music.

Highlights of our program will be a jazzy “Deck the Halls,” an encouraging “Grown Up Christmas List” and a “A Festive Pat-A-Pan,” which is a unique French carol. You will also enjoy a complicated rendition of “A Merry Carol of the Bells” (bells not included; we sing those) and, of course, ending with the favorite “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Come and share the beauty of Christmas with music and laughter. We all need a little Christmas now. Come and share a wonderful experience of music.

Our performances are coming up on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.

Admission is free with donations welcomed and accepted with gratitude.
