At its Feb. 2 meeting, the San Juan Water Conservancy District (SJWCD) Board of Directors authorized final edits and submission of an application for a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation small storage grant to support a feasibility study for the district’s planned reservoir at Running Iron Ranch.
SJWCD board member Randy Cooper opened the discussion, explaining that the board has been through multiple iterations of the grant application, which it is drafting in consultation with its engineering firm RJH Consultants.
He added that board members have had opportunities to add their feedback and edits, and that these comments would be integrated into the final submission.
Cooper stated that the grant application is still on track to be filed the week before the grant deadline.
SJWCD board president Candace Jones noted that the comments made on the application draft were primarily clarifications, with no significant changes in direction.
In response to a question from Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) board member Bill Hudson, who was in the audience for the meeting, Cooper clarified that the final application would be posted on the SJWCD’s website when it is submitted.
Jones then asked the board to give Cooper and SJWCD board member Charles Riehm, who she noted have been leading the grant application process, permission to integrate the changes suggested by the board and submit the edited proposal to RJH for final review and submission.
The board then unanimously voted to give Cooper and Riehm the authorizations Jones requested.
